But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.

As Jesus sent the 72 before Him preparing the way for His coming, some cities did not receive them or Him. They did not want God's Kingdom, His will, His way of salvation. It was so close, He was so near to them, yet they chose to miss out. It reminds me of the word scamble for "ALMOST". One simple switch of two letters changes it to "AM LOST". A sad response indeed - to not receive Him.
