The Rightful Ruler

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. (Romans 6)
Just like Hallmark is still showing Christmas movies, Christmas carols are still bouncing around in the back of my mind.  And, of course, my mind cannot just dwell on the first verse of a carol, but has to trace throught he whole flow, like "Joy to the World". We get to the third verse which says:

No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground

What a fitting thought for a new year: "Joy to the world, the Lord is Come." He is to rule and reign - not sin and death. Hence, we make new year's resolutions to no longer let sin rule, grow, and bring destruction into our lives. We will receive and live by this grace God has given in Christ. May we submit to His reign in our lives today.
