Not Just Happy Thoughts

“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
    call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
    and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
    and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so are my ways higher than your ways
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.

(Isaiah 55:6-9)
Our minds are a mess. We do not, on our own, think clearly, wisely or deeply.  And when we do think deeply on our own, we get ourselves into a deeper mess. We try to substitute our thoughts with "happy thoughts", hoping how we think will lead to actions which make us "happy." Not only does this often fail us; it can be downright dangerous.  We need "higher thoughts" - ones than can only come from the mind of God. God's Word helps us to think on a "higher thought" plane.  Christ himself, through word, deed, and redemptive acts shows and tells us where to put our minds to be on this plane.  The Holy Spirit helps us have the mind of God. It starts when we seek HIM.  As you begin your day (or interrupt it by reading this...) Call out to Him and ask Him to help you think: clearly, wisely, His way. May He bless your day.
