Hebrews 12: 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Today we consider Jesus as Author and Perfecter of our Faith. The first term we are very familiar with. It means: "One that originates or creates." The second is translated in other versions as "Finisher", and has the idea of one who brings to final form, refines, improves. Think of a metal worker who takes steel from the melting process all the way to the finished project. In other words, our faith comes from Christ. That's consistent with the picture in Ephesians 2: that in our salvation even the faith we have to trust Christ is a gift from Him. Jesus completes what He begins. When He came to earth He got the job done. He is still on the job as He sits at the right hand of God interceding for us, and He will finish the job when He returns for us and completes His refining process. The only question is, will look to and trust in Him.
