Over the next few months,, we will be getting to know Jesus by the names He is called in Scripture. There are approximately 100 days between now and Resurrection Day, so it is a good time for that study. If you are interested in the list, you can obtain the book by Diann Cotton: 100 Days with Jesus. As we look at a different name each day, I will be including some of her ideas with my own. We began today in I John 2:
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Jesus is our ADVOCATE. An advocate is one who pleads the cause of one for another. It often is used of one who represents another in court, who defends a position or idea, who stands up for the interests of another. Indeed, Jesus is our Advocate, standing at the Father's right hand, pleading on our behalf. He speaks up for us when we do not have the right words to say. He is especially qualified to speak on our behalf about righteousness. Since He is perfectly righteous, sinless, and holy, and our righteousness comes from Him and His sacrifice on our behalf, He can claim us as His own and declare us righteous. We need an advocate, and if Christ is your Savior, you have the One and only One Who will do.
