Getting to Know Jesus by Name #17: Deity

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority
In this passage we have Christ referred as possessing the fullness of Deity.  This Greek word means: "Divine character or nature, especially that of the Supreme Being; divinity; One exalted or revered as supremely good or powerful."* In short: Jesus is God - the God.  He has all the character, power, and worthiness of the Supreme Being over all.  This was a term Paul's readers would fully comprehend: they would know he was saying Jesus Christ is God.  He was not just some great philosopher or teacher or trickster; He was no mere man. He has all we need; He is all we need; He deserves to be over all we are and have.  Let's treat Him that way.
