Getting to Know Jesus by Name #18: Deliverer

3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Jesus is our Deliverer.  We are very aware of what a deliverer does. Think UPS, Amazon, Fedex, and countless other carriers and companies to bring things to us. But that is only half of the story: A deliverer is "one who sets free, who takes something or someone from one place to another."* God set free the people of Israel from the land of bondage and took them into the Promised Land. In Christ, God sets us free from sin and this present evil age, and death and hell in the age to come, and takes us into the presence of God. Like with the delivery systems mentioned earlier, there are a lot of "moving parts" to this whole process, but Christ is the great mover and deliverer. He gets things in motion and He delivers.
