Hebrews 1:1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
The New American Standard Bible translates the phrase in verse 3 as "exact representation." Exact means "fully and correctly complete or accurate," while a representation is a "the fact or action of one person standing for another so as to have the rights and obligations of the person represented; to serve as the counterpart or image of."* The picture here is clear: When you see Jesus, you see God; when you hear Jesus you hear God; when Jesus does something it is on behalf of God, and the promises he makes and the actions He takes God is obligated to make good on. If we want to know God better or know His will, go to Jesus. When we put our trust in Christ as the One Who died for our forgiveness; God will surely do so.
