Luke 9:33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”
It was often at special visitations of men by God that He gave Names to them. The transfiguration of Christ was such an event. It was there that God said: "This is my CHOSEN ONE." After all the dust was settled and Moses and Elijah heading home, Jesus alone was left. The others were two great servants of God, but they were not His Son. Chosen, of course has the idea of: "One who is the object of choice or Divine favor; an elect person; selected to do or receive something special."* Jesus is all of the above. We all know what it is like to be chosen, but rarely are we chosen as the only one. This resonates with us so much we have mini-series about Jesus entitled: "The Chosen." He is the One and Only Son, designated to be our Savior, and to receive from His Father Gifts to give to us, especially the gift of Eternal Life.
