Creativity and Labor: Whose is it?

12 “Woe to him who builds a town with blood
and founds a city on iniquity!
13 Behold, is it not from the Lord of hosts
that peoples labor merely for fire,
and nations weary themselves for nothing?
14 For the earth will be filled
with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.

(Habakkuk 2:12-14)
As God gave Habakkuk a third woe on Babylon - that they not only stole building materials, but also people, to build their empire, it was really quite extensive. They killed people freely; they used them for slave labor to build, and in the process, robbed them of their God-given right to creative labor to support themselves. They made people a possession.  Such a mentality makes pre-born babies disposable and useable for other "purposes"; it makes those in "power" believe they have the right to determine who lives or dies; it creates a mindset that people and their labor all belong to "the state", and the State has the right to determine a person's creativity and destiny. This all is a shaking of the fist in the face of God, the Creator, who has made us for so much more than this.
