21 By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff. (Hebrews 11)
How do you condense the life of Jacob into one verse? Of all his strivings at home with his brother, his journeys, his sons' escapades, and his mass wealth, what one thing sticks out? The end of his life. His one big blessing was left to give to the sons of Joseph. Why? Because he knew, and the preacher here knew that God had spared him through all this, and lastly the famine in the land, to keep the promises of God for his descendants alive. He was not looking to the past, but to the future - to what God was going to do - in the promised land and beyond. May we never lose sight of what God has done, but may we keep on looking forward to what is yet to come. May faith pull us forward.
