Looking to Jesus...

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12)
Having completed his survey of the Hall of Faith, the preacher now turns us around to look forward, where far in the distance we can see the finish line, where we can faintly see the outline of someone waving us on: Jesus. He is on the platform, next to the Father, cheering for us, calling on us to endure, to watch out for the obstacles on the course, to not lose heart. Meanwhile, we can also hear the voices of those behind us, who have run the race before, cheering us on: "I did it, so can you."  May we stay in the race, and run well today.
