20 By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau. (Hebrews 11)
Isaac does get kind of lost amoung the patriarchs, does he not? We have lots of stories about Abraham and Jacob, but much less about Isaac. He is the child long awaited, the son almost sacrificed, the man of faith who was there, calling out to God not for himself or his own name, but for what God would do through generations to come. He was a man of vision, who quietly accepted both God's blessings and the fact that he was not the main show. He was no short-sighted man. May we do more invoking - calling out to God not for what we want today, but for what those who come after us will need and do tomorrow.
