23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them. (Hebrews 11)
But I thought Moses was all about "The Law"?!? The preacher here reminds us that Moses' life was full of grace and faith. His first point reminds us that Moses did nothing to earn his place in history: he was spared in infancy when he well could have been killed. When he grew up and stood up for the Israelites being mistreated, the history makes it seem not so much as his "choosing" their side as being "caught" defending them. When he left Egypt it appears he was fleeing for his life, but here we are told he "feared" God more. Finally, he was given the instructions by God to carry out the original Passover, but in doing so he was not merely the appointed leader; he was the prime participant, asknowledging that he too had sin to be covered and atoned for. Mose was not merely The Man of The Law; He was a man who constantly received grace from God, who became instructed in faith as a way of life, and the way to Life.
