1 John 3:7-8 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
Actions matter. One of the points John has been making in his letter is that how we live should be a reflection of what we believe - that the follower of Christ should take sin, and weeding it out, seriously. Some were saying it was no big deal. But John remembers what Christ Himself had said to the Pharisees, who only took the sins of others seriously: "You are of your father, the Devil." We act like the one we are born of: those born in sin sin; those born again from God live differently. besides that, if we follow Christ, why do we think He came? If He came to destroy the works of the devil, he tries to get us to sin; why would we claim to follow Christ, but give the devil what he wants?
