LIving in Anticipation

1 John 3:2-3 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
John presents us with a balanced perspective between living for the moment and "being so heavenly minded we are no earthly good."  Understood properly, the thought of Christ's return will positively affect how we live here and now; we will seek to be pure as He is pure, holy as He is holy, because we know one day we will be that way.  Rather than "putting off till tomorrow" we are practicing for, living for tomorrow.  In other words, sin is a big deal to us - not others' sin, but our own.  If we truly know Christ, though imperfectly now, then we will want to be as much like Him as we can, living in anticipation when we will.
