1 John 3:21-22 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
Confidence is a big thing in John's letter, and in the Christian life. With so many voices contradicting the core values of our faith, we can begin to wonder if our convictions are well-placed. John by no means wants us to have a false confidence or merely a self-confidence. He wants us to have confidence that rests solely on Christ and what He has done for us. If our faith is real, and if we seek to live by His commandments, especially His great commandment, we can come to Him confidently in prayer, and in our decisions, and be at peace within, living lives that please Him.
