“Do
not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are
standing is holy ground.” And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for
he was afraid to look at God. Exodus 3:5,6
When Moses approached the burning bush, he was very curious - so curious in fact, that he was unaware of any danger. God did want Him there - He was doing everything He could to get Moses' attention. But He wanted Him to have a sense of how HOLY God is. It is an awesome thing to be in the presence of God, but it is something which must maintain that realization of His great power and holiness, His pure wisdom, and His infinite, but often taken-for-granted love. The fear of God, rightly understood, is not what keeps us away, but draws us back over and over again. When we don't fear Him, we don't bother coming.
