Living life with a heart for others

Ephesians 6:4-9 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
As Paul is wrapping up his charge on what it means to be the church, He once again calls on us to consider the effect our words and actions have on those around us, beginning with those closest to home and those we interact with on a daily basis.  Our goal needs to be to live life in such a way that we draw them closer to Him, not drive them away.  They need to see our love for Him and for them, and a life that is characterized by Christ-like service.  Our families need to see our devotional life as something that benefits them, that they want to be a part of, and those we work with need to see it as something that makes us better bosses and workers, not an isolated distraction that separates us from them.  Let us wake up and look around to see how our lives affect others.
