Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. (Hebrews 1)
Introducing God's Son... What a way to present Jesus Christ, the star in this Big Story we consider during Advent. God had been speaking since the Creation. The Son was there, speaking creation into existence. The Son was also there, at times personally presenting revelation about God to the prophets, who in turn shared it with God's people. But now, in this Story of stories, the Son has come to personally reveal what God is like on earth. He has come as the Word ( see yesterday's blog), and to give the Word of God firsthand. How powerful is His Word? powerful enough to not only create the perfect world, but also powerful enough to keep this fallen world from falling apart, imploding and exploding, until the time He sees fit to call into existence the New Heavens and New Earth. The Son is no mere "superhero" made in the imaginations of men; He is the ultimate super hero sent by God, as God, to show and tell us what we need to know for our parts in the story. He is the Leading Actor. We all play our parts around Him. Let us put the spotlight on Him, not ourselves.
