Luke 2:18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them... 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?” 50 And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.
In Luke's Gospel on the one hand we find all the dates, places, and titles of historical recording, but on the other hand we also see intimate details of personal interactions with the Christ. The shepherds, with their brief, but overwhelming interaction with Him, were moved to praise and rejoicing, which had to be shared, while Mary, His mother, treasured up every experience - every new think she learned about Jesus. This spanned not only his first twelve years, covered by the passages above, but as she observed Him on the cross and after the tomb. If we intimately know Him, we too will have such a treasure that builds up in our hearts and minds, which we will ever want to increase, as He continues to show us more of Who He is, what He has done, and how we can always look for Him to do more.
