Getting to Know Jesus by Name #57: The Man

I Timothy 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus
As Paul calls us to prayer, his big incentive is this: we have The Man.  We often use that phrase "You're the man." to indicate that someone is the best person for the job or challenge.  As Savior and Mediator, Jesus is The Man - in fact the only One Who can do what needs to be done.  He needed to be God and Man.  A Man is an "adult individual, an adult male human, (and represents) Mankind."*  Paul makes a point of this in Romans 5 as well, when He talks about Christ being our representative Head, taking our place when dying for our sins.  Christ is in every way The Man we need, through whom we can plead.
