John 14:1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus is The Life. Life, simply put, is being "a vital being."* He is what we need to exist, to have purpose, to know and experience. Being The Life, Christ is not only the source of life, He defines what matters in our existence. Christ gave us all physical life and has brought Eternal Life to His own. Being the last in this list in the "I Am" statement, it is as if His being the way and showing the truth leads to the ultimate gift: Life. As with all of these names of Jesus, this should well within us what Paul seeks to express when he says: "Thanks be to God for His Indescribable Gift." Today, may we give God thanks for our lives, and seek from Jesus what He wants us to do with this precious gift He has given.
