13 Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all, 14 while they also, by prayer on your behalf, yearn for you because of the surpassing grace of God in you. 15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
Paul was wrapping up his challenge to the Corinthians concerning the gift he and his team would be coming to collect, which was to be used for suffering believers in Judea. One of his main points was that one sign of saving faith was generosity - that because of God's great generosity in giving His Son for us, we as Christ-followers should be characterized by generosity. As he closes this challenge, he is almost at a loss for words thinking about God's great Gift, so He calls Him Indescribable - "Impossible to describe; very great or extreme: inexpressible." And He is The Gift: "Something voluntarily transferred from one person to another without compensation; present."* Indeed, what an appropriate name for Jesus Christ, the greatest Gift ever.
