The Story of Emancipation

10 Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness,
    prisoners suffering in iron chains,
11 because they rebelled against God’s commands
    and despised the plans of the Most High.
12 So he subjected them to bitter labor;
    they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he saved them from their distress.
14 He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness,
    and broke away their chains.
15 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
    and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
16 for he breaks down gates of bronze
    and cuts through bars of iron.

(Psalm 107:10-16)
Freedom.  What a word.  It's something most of us take for granted, and maybe cannot fully comprehend, having never been in prison.  Or have we?  There are those who have been in prison, realized their offence, admitted and paid for it. They have a story to tell.  But we all were (or are...) in bondage to sin, disobedient to God, and in darkness. We have a story to tell of freedom-knowing that God, in Christ, has delivered us from the jailhouse, and set us free to tell the wonderful deeds of God.  May we give thanks for every freedom we enjoy.
