The Stories of Forgiven Fools

17 Some were fools through their sinful ways,
    and because of their iniquities suffered affliction;
18 they loathed any kind of food,
    and they drew near to the gates of death.
19 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
20 He sent out his word and healed them,
    and delivered them from their destruction.
21 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
22 And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
    and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!

(Psalm 107:17-22)
What an interesting phrase: "they loathed any kind of food." Two different kings of the Old Testament are described that way, and they could not have been any more different: Ahab would not eat when he did not get his own way, and David would not eat while he awaited the fate of the child born to Bathsheba. One was about to commit serious sin; one already had.  But from there the similarities cease. Ahab wanted to feel better by getting his own way. David, wanted God's way as the only way to be better.  As a result, David was able to confess his sin, get up and sing his song of forgiveness - the joy of his salvation.  Notice that this is NOT a Psalm of David, but one written as the story of many. David's experience has been repeated numberous times in multiply ways. May others join in the chorus and tell their stories of God's wondrous works. How about you?
