Genesis 26:24 And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Fear not, for I am with you and will bless you and multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham's sake.” 25 So he built an altar there and called upon the name of the Lord and pitched his tent there. And there Isaac's servants dug a well.
After a long, involved account about God and Abraham, the biblical record spends relatively short time and detail on Isaac, except to say "ditto." Consistency. That's what we can expect with God. But we need to be reminded of that from generation to generation. That's what Advent can do in our homes: give us an annual reminder of the generation-gap filling God does. As we celebrate together Christ's coming as the One Who "turns the hearts of the children to their parents, and the hearts of the parents to their young," we escape that recurrent rut we can all fall into: "It's all about me, and I am alone." Advent reminds us that Christ comes for fellowship, and that it is not with us alone, but with families and church families and communities of faith. As we worship and establish deep roots (digging wells...) together, the relationship we have with God and one another is strengthened. So, pray together with me: "Come, Lord Jesus, and bind us together in You, as we celebrate Your coming."
