Genesis 6:11 Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.14 Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch.
God sees the mess we are in and comes to confront us about it. But when He sees and comes, He also offers to prepare us for that confrontation. Adam and Eve knew He would be coming to be spending time with them in the Garden, as He always had. Cain was paid a visit by God before He killed his brother, and here He comes to Noah before he judges the earth. He comes to prepare those who are willing to listen and respond. He comes to convict the world of judgment and righteousness. Interestingly enough, in the verses before these, Noah is described as one who walked with God, found favor with God, and was righteous, as opposed to the world around him. Advent is a celebration of God's coming, which is also a time of preparation for Him to come. "Let every heart prepare Him room..." Yet, it is something we cannot do completely on our own. Our righteousness alone is not enough. Our plan falls short. We need His instructions how to do it. We need Him to come and prepare us, to show and tell us. May we seek His Preparation for this celebration.
