Colossians 4:2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— 4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
Paul had pretty much covered the specific concerns he wanted to share with this church fellowship, so as he wraps up the letter, he touches all the bases heading home. First and foremost is prayer - praying together, and praying for others, specifically him as he shared the gospel. Second is attention to our lifestyle, making sure we are investing ourselves wisely. How appropriate his focus on the use of our time - we have so many choices, so many distractions, so many time traps we can fall into, making foolish investments of our time and lives. Third base is speech - how we talk to one another as believers and to those who are outside the family of faith. Our speech can make or break the impact we have on our church fellowship and our testimony to a watching world. As we run through life today, let's make sure we touch all the bases, before we head home and call it a day.
