Galatians 2:19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.
Paul in this chapter is defending his position and teaching as an Apostle of Jesus Christ. In doing so, he has presented himself as one accepted by tohe Apostles, and as equal enough with them to be able to rebuke and correct one of them. He now presents the fact that as a former specialist on the Law of God, he has a thorough understanding of it. The Law does not lead to salvation; it leads us to the One who saves. Christ died so we could die to the Law: not because the Law was bad, but because we were under it's curse due to our sin and disobedience. Christ was the only One Who could break that curse, and the only way it can be broken in our lives is by faith in Him. Our right relationship with God, and ability to live to Him, come through Christ and what He has done for us. Christ's death, resurrection and ascension make all the difference.
