When the Holy Spirit Speaks... It's not Selfish!

Acts 11:27-30 Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world this took place in the days of Claudius. So the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the brothers living in Judea. And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
One of the big concerns we have about the Holy Spirit speaking into our lives today is discerning if it is really His voice.  This passage is instructional in that they response of the church was to do something totally unselfish.  And they were wise in handling the situation. They did not give the offering to Agabus to deliver, but to men they had come to know and trust as wise stewards of the Word of God.  When it is the Holy Spirit speaking, He gives messages consistent with His Word and His Ways, and the response will be one of selfless sacrifice and love towards others, especially in the Body of Christ.
