Knowing the Spirit well enough...

Acts 19:21-22 Now after these events Paul resolved in the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.” And having sent into Macedonia two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.
Knowing the Holy Spirit is like knowing the Father, The Son, or The Word - we can never know them well enough.  But by this point in his life and ministry, Paul knew the Spirit well enough to have a confidence about His leading.  He knew where he was heading and why, and was convinced that on the way there - to Rome - he had some lose ends he needed to tie up, because he would not be back that way again.  He was confident enough in the Spirit that he would go it alone, sending on his trusted companions in ministry.  It was after this that the riot took place there in Ephesus, as Paul told the people their idols were dead gods.  He had to stand against the crowd alone, having sent his team away. This helped prompt him to start his journey.  It was probably hard to do after having a long, successful ministry there, with many coming to Christ. But he was able to, being "resolved in the Spirit."  May we be growing in our relationship with the Holy Spirit in like manner.
