Jeremiah 14:10 Thus says the Lord concerning this people:
“They have loved to wander thus;
they have not restrained their feet;
therefore the Lord does not accept them;
now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins.”
11 The Lord said to me: “Do not pray for the welfare of this people. 12 Though they fast, I will not hear their cry, and though they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
As we have seen in previous passages in Jeremiah, the people were running away from Him toward other gods. At first, they wandered, then they ran toward them. They refused to stop, turn, and come back to Him when called. Once again, God tells Jeremiah not to pray for them. He pronounces judgment by the big three: sword, famine, and pestilence, a summary of His tools of judgment from Egypt to the end times. They may run from Him to other gods, but they cannot run from His judgment. No one can.
