The Lord Said: "It's Not You... It's Them"

Jeremiah 15:1 Then the Lord said to me, “Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my heart would not turn toward this people. Send them out of my sight, and let them go! 2 And when they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord:
“‘Those who are for pestilence, to pestilence,
    and those who are for the sword, to the sword;
those who are for famine, to famine,
    and those who are for captivity, to captivity.’
Jeremiah was in a hard place.  Like others before him, he had been chosen by God to speak for Him to a rebellious people.  He was to announce judgment and warning, but there would be no repentance and turning away of God's hand.  When Moses interceded for his people over and over again, God would at times relent.  When Samuel pleaded for the people and Saul, God sent them David, but when these people refused to listen, except for a few like Jeremiah, God had had enough. The pestilence, war, famine, and exile He had pronounced was coming. There was no turning back. It wasn't Jeremiah's lack of effectiveness as a prophet of God; it was the intensity and severity of the sin of His people.
