Isaiah 25:13 And the Lord said:
“Because this people draw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
14 therefore, behold, I will again
do wonderful things with this people,
with wonder upon wonder;
and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”
God had told His people that judgment was coming. Though He for the time would spare Judah and Jerusalem from total destruction, they would soon be facing a siege. Having seen the judgment all around them, one would think that they would "wise up" and submit themselves to God's rule, but instead they just pretended to, going through the motions, giving lip-service, with no real change of heart, trusting in their own wisdom instead of His. They were going to have to be humbled. Lest we shake our heads in wonder, may we too examine our lives to make sure we are not just saying the right things, going through the activities, our hearts not surrendered to Him.
