The Not-So-Grand Entrance

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2)
The King has arrived!  Such words invoke pictues of great celebration and pomp.  But not so with the King of Glory.  When He came to earth there was a "grand entrance" with the celebration of the angels, but no one expected Him to come as this baby in humble settings and lack-luster social status.  But Humility is a part of the character of God and needed to be displayed - or not displayed - to reveal to us Who He really is and what He is really like.  The Incarnation of Christ, in retrospect, is so consistent with His character and purpose in coming.  As we celebrate His first coming, may we enter this day, and the rest of Advent with the same mind and purpose - to be His servants in a push-and-shove climate, and may we seek to have the impact He did when He entered the world.
