Do you want this Gift or not?

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: 11 “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” 13 And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7)
When we look at the context of when this powerful promise in verse 14 was given, we realize that God initiated the conversation with King Ahaz, who was trusting in everyone and everything other than God.  God offered the troubled king hope in the giving of a special child in the kingly line, and with him, the assurance of His presence and power.  Ahaz did not want him or God's hope.  Fast forward several hundred years and we find a similar situation: God offered Hope in the form of His Child, in the line of David, One who was intensely more "God-with-us" in human form.  Once again, many did not want Him: Herod, the self-righteous leaders, or the worldly powers.  Fast forward once again to today. The question for us is: Do we want Him? Do we want God with us? Or do we want to trust ourselves, and everyone and everything else to save us?
