6 He will render to each one according to his works: 7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; 8 but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.9 There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, 10 but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. 11 For God shows no partiality. (Romans 2)
One of the struggles I find many beleivers have is uncertainty about their spiritual lives - including their salvation. I am not one to give assurance about this just to make a person feel good, but I know that God wants us to know if, and that, we have salvation and new and eternal life, if that indeed is the case. It is one of those things worth wrestling with God about in prayer. Having told us about the Great News of the Gospel in 1:16 - that it is the power of God leading to salvation, Paul now steps back and calls on us to take evaluation. In doing so, he again gives hope - that God will give eternal life. The apostle John is on the same page with Paul here - we can know that we have eternal life, with no uncertainty, if we trust in Christ alone. So if you have uncertainty, talk with God, and claim the promise of eternal life through faith in Christ, trusting in in His sinless left, sacrificial death, and triumphant resurrection on your behalf. Then commit yourself to following Him, humbly seeking to do His will. In Him you will find a certain confidence with no false security.
