The Lord Said through Them

II Chronicles 24:20 Then the Spirit of God clothed Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God, ‘Why do you break the commandments of the Lord, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.’”

As we work our way through the books of Kings and Chronicles, we find less and less mention of "the Lord said", "the Lord spoke", "God said", "God spoke", and more and more of prophets saying: "Thus says the Lord..."  Even priests were called on by God to speak at times - usually to proclaim disobedience on the part of the people and/or leaders, the judgment involved, and the changes God was calling for.  The above instance is but an example of the repeated theme.  Sad to say, the people refused to listen, and sad to say, as was often the case, killed the messenger. When we find ourselves drifting from God, thinking it is hard to hear Him, it is not because of Him, but us.  When others remind us, we have a choice: realize we are the ones who moved or close our hearts and ears, drifting further away. May we choose wisely today.
