Joshua 8:1 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear and do not be dismayed. Take all the fighting men with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, his city, and his land.
As we saw yesterday, Joshua was devastated after the loss at Ai. The people had proven unfaithful and he appeared to be unsuccessful in his role as leader. After such failure it can seem hard to move on. But the Lord came to Joshua with words of encouragement. This time God was telling him what to do and how to do it; it was not the people deciding for themselves. God was promising complete victory after humiliating defeat. We will never fully obey and please God, nor will we always have total victory over sin in this life. But God does not want us to wallow in our losses. But His grace and power He wants us to arise even more dependent and in tune with Him, to press on and see what He can do.
