I Samuel 8:19 But the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said, “No! But there shall be a king over us, 20 that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” 21 And when Samuel had heard all the words of the people, he repeated them in the ears of the Lord. 22 And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey their voice and make them a king.”
As we saw yesterday, Samuel learned to listen to the Lord. It wasn't long before people realized that and he became the go-to guy to find out what God had to say, and he became established as their judge for his whole long life. But that did not mean they learned to listen at the time. They wanted a king, like all the other nations who gave them a hard time. Samuel was frustrated that they would not listen and told God. Of course, God already knew what they said and were thinking. The people needed to listen and believe. They had a hard lesson ahead. How often are we so stubborn in our own plan, that we don't listen to Him?
