The Lord Said: "Here He Is..."

I Samuel 9:15 Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed to Samuel: 16 “Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seen my people, because their cry has come to me.” 17 When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord told him, “Here is the man of whom I spoke to you! He it is who shall restrain my people.”

Did you catch that last verb?  Saul was just the right man to answer the request of the people. He was big and strong and good looking, making him an obvious "leader." He would go out before them, but he would also "restrain" them, hold them back, keep them from becoming all they could be.  He would lead them over the Philistines to deliver Israel from their heavy hand, but not fully rid them from the land.  Whatever they thought they would get in Saul is not everything they needed, but God would answer them.  Sometimes God gives us what we want to show us it is not really what we want or really need.
