II Samuel 5:22 And the Philistines came up yet again and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. 23 And when David inquired of the Lord, he said, “You shall not go up; go around to their rear, and come against them opposite the balsam trees. 24 And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then rouse yourself, for then the Lord has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.” 25 And David did as the Lord commanded him, and struck down the Philistines from Geba to Gezer.
The one big assignment David was charged with was getting rid of the Philistines. The judges had failed to do so; Saul had failed to do so; it was now David's charge. He kept asking God and asking Him specifically what to do and where to go. God faithfully answered and David proceeded accordingly. He was able to do what others had not. May we continue to ask God if, what, how, when, and where.
