Blessings for sale???

And Micah said to him, “Stay with me, and be to me a father and a priest, and I will give you ten pieces of silver a year and a suit of clothes and your living.” And the Levite went in. And the Levite was content to dwell with the man, and the young man became to him like one of his sons. And Micah ordained the Levite, and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah. Then Micah said, “Now I know that the LORD will prosper me, because I have a Levite as priest.” (Judges 17:10-13 ESV) During the time of the judges, when everyone was doing what seemed right in his own eyes (boy, does THAT sound familiar...), we see all sorts of things happening in the name of true spirituality. Micah remembered enough of the Law of God to know there was something special about the Levites. Surely, it wouldn't hurt to have one around to bring God's blessings. As the story unfolds, Micah ends up losing the priest, and much of which he has been blessed. The same thing continues to happen to this day. We think having angel statues or bible verses on the wall or some other semblance of spirituality will bring God's blessing. The fact is, it is only God Himself who brings such blessing. It is not some relic or religious person we hold on to, but faith in and obedience to the Lord of All.
