20 The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts. (Revelation 9)
These statements wrap up two chapters full of judgment: natural disasters, pestilence, and war. There is too much to ignore. Yet many choose not to call out to God in repentance, not to come to Christ for the change they need, but to instead cling to their man-made idols and ways of trying to handle it themselves. It is one of those exceedingly sad statements made in Revelation: after all mankind has seen, to still turn away from God. How hard have our hearts become? What does it take for Him to wake us up?
