Luke 19:45 And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold,46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers.”
47 And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy him, 48 but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words.
Having entered Jerusalem in grand style, Jesus sets out to show what is important in His Kingdom. Everyone is watching Him and hanging on every word - some because they want to hear, others because they are collecting evidence against Him. One of the the first things they hear and see Him do is cleanse the temple of those who came there for less than sincere purposes. In doing so, they not only were not doing what they should be there, but they restricted others from doing what they should be able to do there. They blocked up the court of the Gentiles keeping them from being able to come and freely worship. Often times it is not just the wrong that we are doing that matters; it is how that affects others. Our sinful actions can be an obstacle to others in coming to worship the True and Living God. May our lives today not only be offered in worship to Him; may they also not be an obstacle to others in their worship.
