26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been told is true, but seal up the vision, for it refers to many days from now.”
27 And I, Daniel, was overcome and lay sick for some days. Then I rose and went about the king's business, but I was appalled by the vision and did not understand it. Daniel 8
Daniel had been used by God to not only interpret dreams, but to tell the dreams themselves to the kings who had had them. But Daniel also had dreams and visions, which, when he recevied them, he asked to understand them. But that did not always happen. Here, this vision of the future overwhelmed him-even sickened him. It was too much to handle. Sometimes scripture can do that to us: we read it, struggle with it, and have to come back to it later. After all, it is the Word of Eternal God, who sees so much more, knows so much more, and can do so much more than we. We should not be able to handle it all at once. We need His Spirit, some struggling of the soul, and some time for it all to come together. May we never lose our awe of scripture.
