Genesis 31:22 When it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled, 23 he took his kinsmen with him and pursued him for seven days and followed close after him into the hill country of Gilead. 24 But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream by night and said to him, “Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.”
To say the least, the relationship between Jacob and his father-in-law(doubled) Laban was very strained. The trickery involved to keep Jacob bound there had eroded a lot of trust. When Jacob took off with Laban's daughters and the part of the herd belonging to him, it left quite a dent in Laban's life. But in order to maintain what was left of their relationship, he needed to watch what he said: not accuse, not vent, not whine and complain. He needed to ask questions and listen. We often find that hard to do, but we all have those situations where God would (and does!) say: "Watch what you say." What situations do you have like that today? Are you willing to receive God's Word to you?
