Doubt and Fear

28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14)
Peter went from one fear to the next. First, he and the others had seen someone walking on the water and thought it was a ghost. Now, being told it was Jesus - or was it really? - being the impulsive type he was, began to walk toward Jesus (hey, if he can do it, I can too...) But then doubts begin to creep in. I really think that is where many people are right now.  Fear and panic rushed over us; then we remembered God is sovereign and Christ is with us, but... doubts begin to haunt us.  But what if...  there is a lot of uncertainty there between me and the end of this storm...  is He really there, or is it an illusion? Thankfully, Christ calls us to our senses, takes our hand, pulls us in, and seeks to teach us another lesson.  May we be good students. Yes He is here. Yes, He hears. Yes, my fears and doubts confuse my heart and mind. God is stretching our faith.
