The Way to Live...

Philippians 2:3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
A big part of the Gospel is looking at the death of Christ as being our way to life. This is primary - It is Christ and Christ alone. It's not how good we are or how much we've done.  But Paul also points out that the way that Christ lived is important for us to follow as well: Selflessly, as a servant.  It's not all about my plan, or getting ahead, or being seen. Those things come as they are appropriate.  Thoese that have made the greatest impact on others, and who have truly risen as great in the eyes of God and men, are those who have humbly, sacrificially served.  If we are feeling like: our lives really don't matter/nobody cares/we haven't done anything significant/our goals have not been met - then let's look at the way we live.  Are we seeking the wrong things, chasing the wind, living prideful, selfish lives.
